
Northern Conference Edges South 12-9

The Northern Conference Dodge Rams defeated the Southern Conference Dodge Vipers 12-9 on Thursday night in the 2004 Dodge CHL All-Star Game in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Indianapolis left winger Jason Baird scored a hat trick and added an assist to lead the way for the North, while Memphis' Don Parsons (2G, 2A) and Colorado's Greg Pankewicz (1G, 3A) also had four-point nights. Wichita's Nathan Grobins stopped 22 shots in goal, and Bossier-Shreveport's Ken Carroll turned away 21 platooning in goal.
For the Southern Conference, Laredo's Patrik Nilson had a four-point night of his own (2G, 2A). In addition, Odessa's Sebastien Thinel tallied a goal and two helpers, and San Angelo's Chris Minard lit the lamp twice in the loss. San Angelo's Scott Reid made 23 saves in net, while Amarillo's Shawn Degagne stopped 15 in his action between the pipes.
There were no penalties in the game, which was played before 10,152 at Tingley Coliseum, home of the New Mexico Scorpions. Next year's game will be hosted by the Laredo Bucks.
Prior to the game, the all-stars also took center stage, participating in the 2004 Comcast CHL Skills Competition. Laredo forward Brent Cullaton won the fastest skater competition, clocking in at 14.28 seconds. Oilers' all-star representative Jason Bermingham won his heat, defeating Rio Grande Valley's Billy Newson with a time of 15.48. Memphis' Derek Landmesser blasted a 92 mph slapshot to claim the hardest shot title, and Laredo's Patrik Nilson won the accuracy shootout, hitting all 4 targets in 6 attempts.
Wichita's Nathan Grobins won the overall goaltending award, stopping 14 of 15 shots in the two goaltending events. The South edged the North 18 saves to 17 in the rapid fire challenge, and the North outlasted the South 5-3 in the breakaway relay. Jason Bermingham scored in his attempt on San Angelo's Scott Reid. Overall, the North claimed victory in the skills competition by a score of 8-6.
The Tulsa Oilers remain on the road this weekend, playing in New Mexico tonight, and then in Amarillo tomorrow. The Oilers return to home ice on Friday, January 30th, hosting the Memphis RiverKings.
