Woollard Shines in CHL All-Star Game

Fort Worth Brahmas left wing Chad Woollard proved why he is one of the top players in the Central Hockey League on Thursday night, scoring one goal and assisting on two others in helping the Northern Conference All Star team defeat the Southern Conference All Star squad 12-9 in the 2004 Dodge CHL All Star Game that was played at the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Woollard, the Brahmas season leader in goals, assists, and points, put his name on the stat sheet midway through the first period when he assisted on the Northern Conference's first goal, scored by Bossier-Shreveport forward Chad Spurr.

As in generally the case in All Star contests, the game featured a ton of goals. Fourteen goals were scored in the first two periods of the game, and the two teams when to the final period tied at 7. In the third period, Woollard scored on a wrist shot at the 3:03 mark to put the North up by a 9-7 margin. He then assisted on another Spurr goal at the 17:44 mark that made the score 11-8.

Indianapolis Ice forward Jason Baird was named the MVP of the game with 3 goals and 1 assist. Wichita Thunder netminder Nathan Grobins was the winning goaltender,as he made 22 saves on the 26 shots he faced in the final 30 minutes of the game.

10,152 fans were on hand to watch the game, a new CHL All Star Game record.

Woollard and his Brahmas teammates will return to regular season action tomorrow night, January 23, when they travel to Odessa to face the Jackalopes at 7:00 p.m. The game will not be broadcast by the Brahmas, but fans are encouraged to follow the game on www.chltv.com or www.pointstreak.com.
