Norfolk Tides News Release

Sunday night's game between Indianapolis and Norfolk was called due to rain with the score tied 2-2 in the 8th inning Sunday night. Because the two teams do not face each other the rest of the season, the end of the game will not be made up, and the game has ended in a tie.

The statistics from the game will count as official stats because 5.0 innings were completed, but the contest will not count in the International League standings.

The game started on time, but was delayed 51 minutes in the bottom of the first due to heavy rains. Garrett Olson, Norfolk's starting pitcher in the contest, surrendered a run in the top of the first, but did not come out to pitch the second inning after the delay. He was relieved by Tim Kester, who pitched extremely well, allowing one unearned run in four innings of relief.

The Indians took the early lead off Olson on an RBI single by Yurendell de Caster, and extended their lead to 2-0 in the 5th inning on an RBI single by David Parrish off of Kester.

After leaving five men on base through six innings, Norfolk tied the score in the 7th. Alberto Castillo extended his hitting streak to eight games with a one-out single, and came around to score on a triple into the right-center field gap off the bat of Bo Hart. One out later, Tike Redman hit a bounding ball through the middle of the infield, plating Hart and tying the score at 2-2.

The Tides retired the Indians in order in the top of the 8th in a steady rain, but the rain intensified enough that the umpires delayed the contest again before the bottom of the frame. After another lengthy delay, the game was officially called.

Norfolk has their final scheduled off day of the season on Monday before beginning a three-city, six-game road trip on Tuesday. The Tides begin the trek with a 7:00 contest Tuesday night from Fifth Third Field in Toledo.
