Buffalo Bisons News Release

The Buffalo Bisons today announced that OF Brian Barton has been promoted to the team from Double-A Akron. He is scheduled to start for the Herd tonight against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees at PNC Field (5:00 p.m.).

To make room on the roster, the Bisons placed INF Luis Rivas on the disabled list, retroactive to August 1.

Barton, 25, is the Cleveland Indians' #5 prospect by Baseball America. The outfielder has spent the entire 2007 season with Akron, hitting .314 (122-389) with 18 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 59RBI and 20 stolen bases in 106 games. His batting average is the 6th highest in the Eastern League, while his 122 hits are 2nd to only Akron teammate Jordan Brown (124). An Eastern League All-Star, Barton has also drawn 41 walks to give him the 2nd-highest on-base percentage (.416) in the league.

In 2006, Barton hit a combined .323 with 19 home runs, 83RBI and 41 stolen bases between Akron and Single-A Kinston. He led all Indians minor leaguers in hits (144) and runs scored (88), was 2nd in average, 3rd in stolen bases and 4th in home runs and RBI. A mid-season and post-season Carolina League All-Star, his .515 slugging percentage led the C.L.

Barton was signed by the Indians as a non-drafted free agent on August 13, 2004 out of the University of Miami, FL.

Rivas has hit .262 (97-370) with nine home runs and 38RBI in 95 games with the Bisons.
