Norfolk Ends G-Braves' Three-Game Win Streak with 6-3 Win

The Lead: The Norfolks Tides defeated the Gwinnett Braves 6-3 Wednesday night at Harbor Park in Norfolk, Virginia. The loss snaps the G-Braves three-game win streak and it drops the G-Braves into a third-place tie with Norfolk in the International League South. Both teams are now 5-9 on the season and are now six games in back of the first place Durham Bulls. The Bulls are now 11-3 on the season after an 6-5 win at Charlotte in 12 innings.

It Was Over When: In the bottom of the eighth, Norfolk third baseman Josh Bell hit a 2-RBI double to right field, which sent Jeff Salazar and Brandon Snyder home to score. The score was pushed to 6-3 in favor of Norfolk after Gwinnett pulled within one earlier in the inning.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: Ryne Reynoso picked up his third loss on the year, pitching 5 innings and giving up 4 runs. Jeff Lyman pitched 2 innings and gave up 2 hits. Cristhain Martinez pitched an inning of work and gave up 2 R/ER.

At the plate: Designated hitter Freddie Freeman hit his first home run as a Gwinnett Brave, a 2-run shot in the top of the fourth. He finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Braves first baseman Barbaro Canizares and right fielder Mitch Jones each went 2-for-4. Jones had a run scored.

Knights Beat:

On the Mound: Troy Patton picked up his first win on the year, pitching 6 innings and giving up only 2 R/ER. Frank Mata earned his first save of the year. He pitched 2 innings and held the G-Braves scoreless.

At the plate: Left fielder Jeff Salazar went 1-for-3 with 3 RBI, two runs scored, and a walk. Third baseman Josh Bell went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

On Deck: Gwinnett and Norfolk face off in the final game of the four game series at Harbor Park Thursday afternoon. First pitch set for 12:15 p.m. Braves RHP Tim Gustafson (0-1, 12.27 ERA) is scheduled to make his third start of the season. The Tides will counter with RHP Brandon Erbe (0-2, 7.45 ERA).
