
Norfolk Bullpen Quiets Pigs in 8-6 Loss

The Norfolk bullpen combined to toss 7.1 scoreless IP as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (26-25) dropped an 8-6 decision to the Norfolk Tides (18-34) on Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Park.
LHP Edgar Olmos (2.1 IP, 3 BB, 3 K), LHP Zach Phillips (2.0 IP, 3 K), RHP Chaz Roe (1.0 IP, 2 K), RHP Pedro Beato (1.0 IP, H, K) and LHP Oliver Drake (1.0 IP, 2 K) combined to toss the shutout relief for the Tides.
Olmos earned the win to move to 2-1 on the year while Drake picked up his fifth save of the campaign.
Norfolk jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with a four-run first as Christian Walker delivered the big blow with a three-run blast off of Pigs starter Jake Thompson and Mike Yastrzemski came through with an RBI fielder's choice to plate another run.
The Pigs cut the lead to 4-3 with three runs in the home half of the frame as Cody Asche (2-5, 2B, RBI, 2 R) knocked home a run via an RBI double while Andrew Knapp and Cedric Hunter each through with RBI singles.
A three-run second opened up a 6-4 lead for the IronPigs. Brock Stassi (2-4, 2 RBI, SB) came through with the big hit in the inning with a two-out, two-run single and Nick Williams knocked home a run via an RBI groundout.
Norfolk starter David Hale (n/d) allowed the six runs on nine hits to go along with two strikeouts.
In the top of the third, Walker reached with a two-out double and scored on Audry Perez's RBI single to bring the Tides within 6-5.
Norfolk regained the lead at 8-6 with a three-run fourth as a two-run error by Asche in left field allowed a pair of runs to score and Walker plated a run with an RBI single in the frame.
Thompson (3-5) gave up the eight runs (six earned) on nine hits while walking three and fanning five in 3.2 IP.
The Tides had the chance to extend the lead with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth, but RHP Luis Garcia (1.2 IP, H, 2 K) was able to fan Michael Almanzar and get Ozzie Martinez to ground out and end the inning.
RHP Frank Herrmann (1.2 IP, 4 H, K) and RHP Edubray Ramos (2.0 IP, 2 H, K) also had scoreless outings in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.
J.P. Crawford (2-5, 2 R) also had a multi-hit game for Lehigh Valley.
The series wraps up on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. as RHP Ben Lively (0-0, 2.57) will be on the bump for the Pigs against Tides LHP Ariel Miranda (1-4, 4.23).
