Norfolk Tides News Release
Norfolk pounded out 10 runs on 14 hits, cruising past the Rochester Red Wings 10-4 in game two of a doubleheader Saturday night. Norfolk fell to the Red Wings 3-2 in 14 innings in game one, which was the completion of a suspended game from early April.
Terry Tiffee and Cesar Crespo each homered in game two for Norfolk, as the Tides set a season-high with ten runs scored. Tiffee put the Tides up 1-0 in the second inning with a solo shot, and Crespo added a two-run blast during a four run fourth inning which put the Tides up 5-1.
Tiffee, who appeared in 219 games with Rochester over the past three seasons, finished the night with two hits and two RBI. Crespo also added two hits and drove in three.
Brandon Fahey and Mike Cervenak each had three hits and an RBI in the win, while Jason Dubois added a two-run double.
Garrett Olson (2-4) was the benificiary of the offensive output, but the 23-year-old southpaw did not need all of it. Olson allowed two runs - one earned - on eight hits in seven innings, striking out three without walking a batter. Olson lowered his ERA to 3.83 this season, and has now struck out 27 while walking just two in 35.0 innings over his last five outings.
Game one was picked up in the top of the 12th inning, with Norfolk serving as the home team and the score tied 2-2. The first 11 innings of the contest were originally played on April 11, but that game was suspended due to rain, and resumed at Harbor Park.
The Red Wings picked up the 3-2 win in the bottom of the 14th, as Glenn Williams drove home Garrett Jones with a one-out double off the right-center field wall.
Francis Beltran (0-4) took the loss for the Tides, allowing four hits and one run in 3.1 innings of relief.
The Tides and Red Wings will play two again on Sunday afternoon, with a doubleheader slated to begin at 1:15. Jim Johnson (1-3, 3.06) will take on Kevin Slowey (4-2, 1.46) in game one, with Andy Mitchell (3-2, 2.93) squaring off against Jason Miller (1-0, 2.25) in game two.
