Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - The additions of forwards Emerson Etem, William Karlsson and Max Friberg helped the Admirals claim victory in two out of three games last week. While the newcomers helped power the team to wins, mainstays Louis Leblanc and Yann Danis played pivotal roles as well.
Wednesday night at Scope Arena in Norfolk was a special evening for Admirals fans. The team received both Emerson Etem and William Karlsson via reassignment from the NHL's Anaheim Ducks. Etem put home an empty netter to a cap off a victory over the Checkers in a contest that belonged to Leblanc, as his two-goal effort proved to be the difference in a 4-1 win. Chris Wagner also chipped home his team-high eighth goal of the season as well.
The Admirals were able to claim back-to-back victories for just the second time of the year Friday night in Hartford. Yann Danis stopped all 35 Wolf Pack shots en route to his third win of the season and his first shutout. Friberg, who had missed every game until Wednesday after injuring his arm during his first shift of the season, scored a power play goal in the second period. Leblanc remained red-hot, notching his third goal in two games in the 2-0 road victory.
After falling behind 1-0 early in the first period on Saturday in Lehigh Valley, Norfolk scored two unanswered goals courtesy of Karlsson and Joseph Cramarossa. The back-and-forth match saw the teams trade three power play goals. Karlsson would add his second goal of the night in the final period. Despite peppering Phantoms' goalie Anthony Stolarz with 38 shots, the Admirals fell by a 4-3 final.
Norfolk improved their record to 8-12-0-0 for a total of 16 points, just four behind Lehigh Valley for fourth in the East Division. The Admirals six-game road swing continues this week with trips to Charlotte Tuesday, Springfield Friday and Manchester on Saturday with all games starting at 7 p.m. The trip concludes with the Monarchs on Sunday for a 3 p.m. face-off.

ADMIRALS SPOTLIGHT
- Defenseman Jesse Blacker received his first call up to the NHL when he was officially reassigned to Anaheim from Norfolk on Thanksgiving Day. Blacker made his NHL debut against Chicago the following night and recorded 6:03 of ice time in nine total shifts.
- Former Admiral defenseman Sami Vatanen continues his sensational start to 2014-15. The Finn has 6-1420 points in 26 games for the Ducks this year, and is tied with All-Star forward Corey Perry in points. Vatanen is also the top-scoring defenseman on the Anaheim roster.
- Josh Manson continues to play dependably and seems to have cemented himself into the Ducks' defensive unit. Manson's seen over 20 minutes of ice time all but once in the last five games, is plus-1 through the first 14 NHL games of his young career and has one assist.
ADMIRALS' LOG
Winger Louis Leblanc remains effective on the power play. Leblanc is sixth in the AHL with four power-play goals this season and recently overtook Chris Wagner for the team lead in points. He has seven goals and five assists. The anticipated return of forward Max Friberg finally arrived last Wednesday in a home game versus Charlotte. Friberg was plus-1 with three shots on net in his first game since opening night when he suffered an upper-body injury. He followed up that positive outing with his first goal and first assist of the year in a 2-0 win at Hartford the day after Thanksgiving. Tonight, the Swede aims to extend his scoring streak to three games thanks to an assist this past Saturday night at Lehigh Valley.

ABOUT THIS WEEK'S MATCHUPS .
Norfolk continues its six-game road trip when it visits Charlotte this evening. The Admirals and Checkers will have faced each other three times in the past three weeks. The regular season series is tied, 1-1.
Emerson Etem and William Karlsson, assigned to the Admirals last Monday, have been welcome additions, contributing four points (three goals, one assist) and 16 shots since their reassignment. Norfolk has also enjoyed the return of Max Friberg, who was injured in the season opener. In his three games since activation, he has amassed three points on 10 shots, including a goal and assist at Hartford. With his two-point night against the Wolf Pack, Louis Leblanc overtook Chris Wagner for the team points lead. Leblanc notched nine points in the month of November, including three power-play goals, two game-winners and three different two-point games. Montreal's first-round draft pick in 2009 put two pucks in the Charlotte net in two matchups thus far in 2014-15. Goaltender Yann Danis has heated up in the past three contests, going 2-1 with five goals against on 95 shots and one shutout. He'll make his eighth start in a row if he goes tonight at Time Warner Cable Arena.
The Checkers have enjoyed recent success, stringing together their first two-game win streak since March 29-30 of last season with a pair of victories over the Milwaukee Admirals this past weekend. Norfolk will face a challenge on Checkers ice, since Charlotte has won three straight at home and outscored their opponents, 14-7. Goaltender Drew MacIntyre will play a large role, having faced 40 or more shots three times this season and putting up a .961 save percentage in those games. The Admirals climbed the AHL power play standings to 13th and have converted in each of the last four games while a man up. Norfolk is 2-for-10 with the man-advantage against the Checkers and surrendered a power-play goal once to Charlotte in six opportunities.

The Admirals will then take on the Falcons, to whom they lost their one meeting so far, 6-3, after surrendering three goals in the first period. After going 3-6 in their first nine games, Springfield has been nearly unbeatable, posting a 12-2 record since. They are currently on a nine-game win streak, which ties the franchise record, and all but one victory came in regulation. The Falcons currently lead the Eastern Conference with a four-point cushion. Both Austin Madaisky and Sean Collins rank within the top 20 scorers in the AHL. Madaisky notched 15 points and a +12 in plus-minus in 15 games last month, while Collins scored 12 points in 13 games. The Admirals will have a tough time getting past goaltender Anton Forsberg, who rides an eight-game win streak into Friday's action. November's Goaltender of the Month is fourth in the league in goals against (1.92), sixth in save percentage (.932) and second in wins (9). He shutout Worcester to begin November and allowed more than two goals once. Springfield is the hottest team in the AHL right now, pouring in three or more goals in eight of their nine wins in a row.

To finish up the weekend, the Admirals play a back-to-back against the Monarchs. The two teams split their first series, which included a total of 84 penalty minutes in Norfolk ' s win. Manchester ' s roster is full of offensive firepower, with the squad boasting three players in the top 20 with 24 goals and 31 assists between them. They have been almost as victorious as Springfield, notching a 10-3 record in November, including a five-game win streak and a nine-game point streak. Scoring early will be key for the Admirals, since the Monarchs are 12-0-0-0 when leading after two periods. Norfolk will also need to focus on the triple threat of Jordan Weal, Nick Shore and Brian O ' Neill. Until Saturday, Weal had registered points in eight straight games, ending November with 12 points, four power-play goals and two game-winners. Shore had a point streak of his own, recording 13 points over seven straight contests and finishing the month with 15 points, a team-best +14 in plus-minus and only two penalty minutes. Team leader O ' Neill had scored in all but four games last month, and was even or positive in plus/minus in 10 of 13 games.
