Portland Pirates News Release
Portland, Me.- The Portland Pirates (12-9-0-0) rose to second place in the Atlantic Division Tuesday night with a 4-2 win over the Worcester Sharks at the Cross Insurance Arena. It was the fourth straight win for the Pirates.
Andrew Campbell, Eric Selleck, and Jordan Martinook had two points each for the Pirates. Campbell had a goal and an assist, while Selleck and Martinook each had two assists. Martinook has now had six points in his last four games.
The first period was quite uneventful with the lone penalty coming at 13:47 against the Pirates' Darian Dziurzynski for boarding.
Andrew Campbell found the back of the net at 9:43 in the second period, assisted by Martinook and Dziurzynski to give Portland the first goal of the game. That goal was followed up with another Pirates tally, this time from Alex Bolduc, with Selleck and Martinook picking up assists at 12:40 in the second frame. The Sharks answered back thirty seconds later at 13:10 with a goal from Daniil Tarasov, assisted by Matt Taormina and Chris Tierney.
The Sharks tied the game up 2-2 at 2:54 in the third when Michael Haley scored, assisted by Freddie Hamilton and Eriah Hayes. With time winding off the clock, Justin Hodgman scored the go-ahead goal at 16:33, assisted by Lucas Lessio and Campbell. The Pirates locked down the win with an empty netter with 50 seconds left on the clock, scored by Tyler Gaudet and assisted by Francis Wathier and Selleck.
Pirates' goalie Mike McKenna (7-7-0) had a mammoth night in net, stopping 43 of 45 shots he faced. It was McKenna's 4th straight win. J.P. Anderson (2-6-0) blocked 15 of the 18 shots he faced for the Sharks.
