Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH âThe Manchester Monarchs, the AHL affiliate of the Reading Royals, announced today that defenseman Denis Grebeshkov is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair a fractured right wrist. Defenseman Doug Nolan has been recalled by Manchester to take the place of Grebeshkov on the Monarchs roster.
Grebeshkov, 20, a first-round (18th overall) selection of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, is expected to undergo surgery on December 9. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound native of Yaroslavl, Russia, will likely miss at least eight weeks of play following the surgery. Grebeshkov, who had five points (1-4=5) and 16 penalty minutes in 20 games with the Monarchs this season, was injured in the Monarchs game at Hartford on November 26.
Nolan, 27, has zero points and 14 penalty minutes in 12 games with the Monarchs this season. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound native of Quincy, Massachusetts, also has two points (both assists) and 16 penalty minutes in seven games with the Royals. Originally selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 11th round (282nd overall) in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, Nolan has eight points (1-7=8) and 30 penalty minutes in 46 career AHL games with the Monarchs, the Hamilton Bulldogs, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks.
The Royals return home for a pair of games on Friday, December 5 and Saturday, December 6 against the Roanoke Express. Rieck's Printing is handing out 2,000 first series sets of Royals hockey trading cards on Friday, while on Saturday St. Joseph Medical Center is providing Slapshot's Growth Charts to the first 1,000 children 12 and under.
