Nine Run Sixth Inning Too Much in Idaho Falls

On Sunday afternoon at Melaleuca Field, the Grand Juntion Rockies led the Idaho Falls Chukars 6-1, but saw the home team score the next 11 runs, nine of them coming in the sixth inning in a 14-7 loss.

With the game tied at one in the fourth inning, the Rockies put up a five spot thanks to RBI base hits by Campbell Wear, Anthony Brito and Chris Rabago. Cole Anderson hit a 2-run homer in the middle of it, but the Chukars got two runs back in the fourth, and after Alec Crawford held them scoreless in the fifth, they went to work against three Rockies pitchers in the sixth.

Alexander Guillen was charged with the first four runs in the inning. James McMahon walked the only man he faced, while Lorenz Ozuna was charged with the last four. The Rockies committed two errors in the inning, making the last five runs unearned.

Stahel singled home a run in the seventh, but the Chukars added a pair in the seventh and eighth innings.

Amalani Fukofuka put the Chukars on top when he tripled home Cody Jones in the first inning. Sam Hilliard tied the game with a two run double in the third.

Fukofuka finished with five hits, the first five hit game of his career. He was a home run shy of the cycle.

Anderson, Stahel and Tyler Nevin had two hits games for the Rockies.

The loss drops Grand Junction to 8-21 in the second half, 28-39 overall. The win keeps Idaho Falls in a first place tie in the South division with Ogden, who beat Orem at home 10-5.
