VOYAGERS HAMMER OSPREY
The Voyagers busted out of their recent slump at the plate Saturday as they took a series-opening 11-4 win over Missoula. The offensive onslaught started early, as Great Falls scored six runs in the second, capping it off with a two-run homer from Dante Flores, his second long ball in as many days. The Voyagers added two more in the fourth, as Johan Cruz added a two-run shot of his own. The final three runs of the night for Great Falls came in the sixth, as Flores capped off a big night with a two-run triple, and Cruz singled him home. The 11 runs were more than enough for Lucas Shearrow and the Voyager bullpen, who combined to surrender just four hits on the night to the Osprey.
PLAYOFF PICTURE
Entering Sunday's action, Missoula leads the second half by a game and a half over Billings and Great Falls. If the Osprey win both halves, the next best overall record claims the second playoff berth from the division. In that race, the Voyagers lead Billings by a half game after overtaking them last night, while Helena sits three and a half back.
MORE ON THE OFFENSE
Before last night's 11-run outburst, Great Falls had gone eight straight without scoring more than four runs. The Voyagers had a balanced attack last night, with eight of nine Great Falls hitters posting a least one hit, and all nine reaching base at least once. Five different Voyagers posted multi-hit efforts, led by Dante Flores, who tied his career-high with three knocks and drove in a career-high four. Johan Cruz also had a big night, posting three hits and driving in three. Also chipping in with two hits were Frank Califano, Landon Lassiter, and Casey Schroeder. Eight different Voyagers also scored in last night's contest, and six different Great Falls hitters drove in at least one run.
BACK TO BANKS
Great Falls looks to make it three straight wins this afternoon as they send Tanner Banks to the hill. The left-hander owns the second-lowest ERA in the league at 2.27, leads the league in WHIP at 0.98, and has the third-lowest opponent's batting average at .238. The southpaw has not allowed an earned run in two starts against Missoula this year.Â
