Great Falls Voyagers News Release
GREAT FALLS, Mont. (August 30, 2015)Â - The Great Falls Voyagers were held to a season-low three hits as they fell 7-1 to the Missoula Osprey Sunday afternoon at Centene Stadium.
Missoula (16-13, 39-27) opened the scoring in the third. After retiring the first two in the frame, Tanner Banks (4-5) allowed a solo home run to Jason Morozowski, which sparked a two-out rally from the visitors. A couple batters later Austin Byler brought two home with a double, before a Raymel Flores RBI singled capped the four-run outburst.
The Osprey then added another in the fifth, as Morozowski was again involved. He led the inning off with a walk, stole a base, and eventually scored on a double play ball.
The five-run cushion proved to be more than Cameron Smith (7-1) needed. After allowing a walk and a double in the first, the southpaw went on to retire the next 15 Voyagers (14-16, 31-35) he faced, with the streak only coming to an end on an error. The lefty exited after six innings, having struck out four and having set down 16 of the final 17 he faced.
The lone Great Falls run of the afternoon came in the seventh. Having not picked up a hit since the first, Sikes Orvis and Landon Lassiter put together back-to-back doubles to keep the Voyagers from being shutout for the first time this season.
Missoula got their final two runs of the contest in the eighth as Flores hit a two-run homer, his fourth hit of the afternoon.
The Great Falls loss and the Billings loss to Helena keeps both teams tied for second place in the second half standings, two and a half games behind the Osprey. The Voyagers also remain a half game ahead of the Mustangs in the wild card race, with the Brewers closing to within two and a half games of Great Falls.
After an off day on Monday, the Voyagers and Osprey will shift their series to Ogren Park Allegiance Field on Tuesday night. Great Falls will turn to right-hander Evin Einhardt (5-3, 4.22), while Missoula will counter with southpaw Anfernee Benitez (3-4, 4.60). First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m., and coverage will begin at 7:00 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
