Brewers One-Hit Mustangs, Win 9-0

August 30, 2015 - Pioneer League (PL)
Helena Brewers News Release

The Helena Brewers (11-17) collected their first shutout of the season, topping the Billings Mustangs (14-15) 9-0 on Saturday at Kindrick Field in Helena.

Conor Harber made the start for Helena, his third start in professional baseball. The former Oregon Duck went three innings, giving up just one hit, a bunt single for Zach Shields in the third inning. It would be the only hit of the night for Billings.

The Brewers opened the game with six runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Arias (2-2) would not make it out of the inning for Billings, being pulled after just recording two outs. Gilbert Lara and Yerison Pena each added two-RBI doubles in the frame.

Steven Karkenny hit his eighth homerun of the season in the second inning, a two-run liner that bounced off the top of the left field wall. He leads Helena in round-trippers, jumping one ahead of Jose Cuas.

Milton Gomez (3-2) and Jon Olczak combined to retire the last 14 Mustangs batters that came to the plate. Billings did not have a baserunner after the fifth.

Helena has now won six consecutive games at home and have won seven of their last eight games overall. They are now just three games back of the Billings Mustangs in overall record. Should the Osprey win the second half in the North Division, tiebreaker would fall to overall record between the three remaining teams.

Helena and Billings will face off in the second game of their four-game series Sunday at Kindrick Field. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
