Nie Selected to All-Rookie Team
April 16, 2007 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the United Hockey League and 2005-06 Central Division, Tarry Cup and Colonial Cup champions, announce Ryan Nie has been selected as the goaltender of the UHL's All-Rookie-Team.
Nie's rookie campaign rewrote both K-Wing and UHL history. The netminder, who lead the entire league with seven shutouts, shattered the K-Wings' UHL franchise records for both goals against average (2.02) and save percentage (.929). Ryan's 2.02 GAA also establishes the UHL record for lowest GAA in a career. The UHL history books were also rewritten in February, when Nie logged three straight shutouts to help the K-Wings set the UHL team record for most consecutive shutouts at 203:39 minutes.
During the regular season, Nie earned the UHL's Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week on two separate occasions (February 18th and April 1st), Eastern Rookie of the Month for February and Southern Sports Goaltender of the Month of March. On April 7th, Nie was honored by the team as their Centennial Wireless Rookie of the Year during the K-Wings annual player award ceremony.
Nie joins former K-Wings Jason Deitsch and Joel Martin as the only other K-Wing players to earn a spot on the leagues UHL All-Rookie Team.
Kalamazoo is back on the ice this Friday (4/20) night, as the K-Wings continue their quest to become "Repeat Offenders" in game five of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals against the Flint Generals. The series is currently tied two games apiece.
Tickets for game five are available at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office during their regular business hours of Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. or Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Fans can purchase their tickets by calling the (269) 345-5101 or logging onto www.ticketmaster.com.
