2006-07 UHL All-Rookie Team Announced

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday the 2006-07 All-Rookie Team as selected by league head coaches, general managers, and members of the media.

Per UHL Rules and Regulations, a player qualifies as a rookie if he has participated in 60 or fewer professional games prior to the start of the 2006-07 season. A goaltender qualifies as a rookie if he has participated in 3,600 or fewer game minutes prior to the start of the 2006-07 season.

2006-07 UHL ALL-ROOKIE TEAM

Goaltender - Ryan Nie, Kalamazoo Wings

Defenseman - Dale Lupul, Quad City Mallards

Defenseman - Luke Fritshaw, Rockford IceHogs

Forward - Brett Pilkington, Quad City Mallards

Forward - Mike Zbriger, Bloomington PrairieThunder

Forward - Justin Chwedoruk, Quad City Mallards

Ryan Nie (G), Kalamazoo Wings - The 22-year-old native of Nanticoke, Ontario, completed the regular season with a 20-8-4 record. He led all UHL goaltenders with a 2.02 goals against average (GAA), a .929 save percentage (SPCT) and seven shutouts. His 2.02 GAA is a UHL career record among goaltenders with at least 30 starts. Nie was the Easton UHL Rookie of the Month for February and was selected as the Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Month for March.

Dale Lupul (D), Quad City Mallards - The 27-year-old native of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, tied for fifth among defensemen and seventh among rookies with 49 points (22g, 27a) while splitting the season with the Quad City Mallards and the Elmira Jackals. Among UHL rookies, he ranked in the top ten in goals, assists, points, plus/minus rating, penalty minutes, power play goals and power play assists. He was selected to the 2007 UHL All-Star Classic, scoring a goal in the game.

Luke Fritshaw (D), Rockford IceHogs - The 22-year-old native of Tisdale, Saskatoon, registered 30 points (6g, 24a) and 180 penalty minutes in 75 games. Setting a club-record, his plus-34 rating was the fourth-best in the league, the third-highest among defensemen and the best among UHL rookies. Two of his six goals on the season were game-winners, tying him for eighth among defensemen in that category.

Brett Pilkington (F), Quad City Mallards - The 23-year-old native of Calgary, Alberta, ranked second on his team and 11th in the league in scoring with 73 points (29g, 44a) this season. He led all UHL rookies with his 73 points, and he tied for first among rookies in both goals and assists. Pilkington was the Easton UHL Rookie of the Month for March, and he was selected to the 2007 UHL All-Star Classic, tallying two assists in the game.

Mike Zbriger (F), Bloomington PrairieThunder - The 25-year-old native of Montreal, Quebec tied for first among UHL rookies with 29 goals, and he ranked third among rookies in points (29g, 28a) in 77 games played. His point total was the highest on the PrairieThunder, and it tied for the 25th-best in the league. Among UHL rookies, he ranked third with 10 power play goals, and he tied for sixth with three game-winning goals.

Justin Chwedoruk (F), Quad City Mallards - The 22-year-old native of St. Albert, Alberta was second among UHL rookies in scoring with 68 points (24g, 44a) and tied for first with 44 assists, four game-winning goals and four short-handed assists. He tied for second among UHL rookies with 16 power play assists. He earned honors as the Easton UHL Rookie of the Month for December and was selected to the 2007 UHL All-Star Classic.
