Saskatoon Blades News Release
Saskatoon, Sask. -- Three members of the Saskatoon Blades have been released from their respective NHL team's camps and will be returning to the team prior to the season opener on Friday night in Swift Current.
The Washington Capitals released 1999 born forward Kristian Roykas-Marthinsen and 2000 born forward Eric Florchuk on Wednesday. Roykas-Marthinsen was drafted by the Capitals in the 7th round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and was attending his second main camp with Washington. Marthinsen appeared in 2 pre-season games with Saskatoon prior to departing for Washington.
Eric Florchuk was drafted by the Capitals in June, and was at his first camp with the big club this month. Both wingers took part in the pre-camp rookie tournament in Florida before heading back to Washington for training camp with the main roster.
Fellow Blades forward Chase Wouters (2000) is on his way home after attending Tampa Bay Lightning main camp as an invite. Wouters also played in the same rookie tournament as Florchuk and Roykas-Marthinsen in Estero, Florida, with the Lightning. Wouters was then invited to take part in the main camp with the Bolts.
Roykas-Marthinsen and Florchuk are expected back in Saskatoon on Wednesday evening while Wouters will arrive early Thursday. All three players are expected to be in the lineup for the first game of the season when the Blades travel to Swift Current to take on the Broncos.
The Blades have also released 2001 born forward Ethan Mack from the active roster. As of Wednesday afternoon, the Blades roster sits at 25 players; 14 forwards, 9 defensemen, and 2 goaltenders.
