Brockton Rox News Release

Little Falls, NJ - New Jersey Jackals' C Matt Lauderdale lifted a game-winning sacrifice fly into left-centerfield in the bottom of the ninth inning to bring home SS Bryant Nelson and give New Jersey a 4-3 win over the Rox.

The Rox had fought back to the tie the game 3-3 in the eighth inning when RF Dennis Abreu drilled a two-run double to the gap off of Jackals' closer LHP Rusty Tucker. Abreu stood at third base with nobody out, but was left aboard as Tucker struck out three of the next four batters to keep the game knotted at 3-3.

It was the Rox who originally led in the game, scoring the first run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by C Lee Rubin. At that time, and until a two out single in the sixth inning by Abreu, Brockton did not have a hit off of New Jersey starter RHP Michael Vicaro. Vicaro did not figure in the final decision but delivered a superb start. He allowed one run on two hits in seven innings; walking three and striking out five.

The Jackals did the most damage in the fourth inning by scoring three runs off of Rox starter RHP Greg Bunn. New Jersey sent nine batters to the plate in the inning but only had one hit. They took advantage of two errors, two walks, and a hit batsman in the inning. Bunn left after five innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and four walks. He struck out three. RHP David Pelligrine pitched two innings of scoreless relief, and RHP Keith Noe pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning before taking the loss in the ninth.

The Rox and Jackals finish the three-game series in the Rox final road game of the season on Sunday night. RHP Santo Hernandez (0-1, 4.50 ERA) will pitch for the Rox against New Jersey RHP Tom Atlee (2-4, 4.24 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM.
