(NASHUA, N.H.) The Nashua Pride took a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning and never looked back as they cruised to a 5-1 victory over the Can-Am League leader Quebec Capitales in front of 2,593 fans at Historic Holman Stadium on Saturday night.
Pride starter Matt O'Brien (2-1) earned the win for the home team, going eight strong innings, giving up one run (zero earned) on five hits, walking three and striking out four along the way. Closer Adam Piechowski came in to pitch the ninth and record his fourth save of the season.
Nashua first baseman Bryan Duplissie led the offense with three runs batted in on the night, finishing 1-for-3 with a sacrifice fly and a run scored. OF Jerod Edmonson went 2-for-3, adding a run and an RBI, while 2B Argenis Tavarez finished the game 1-for3 with two runs scored for the home team.
Quebec starter Luis Valdez (9-4) took the loss going six and two-third innings giving up five runs on seven hits, walking three and striking out five. Reliever Mike James came into the game to pitch one and a third innings of no-hit ball, striking out two of the four hitters he faced.
Capitales right fielder Issael Gonzalez recorded the lone RBI for the visitors, finishing the game 1-for-3. Also recording hits for Quebec were CF Geoffrey Tomlinson, DH Pat Scalabrini, LF Alex Nunez and C Gregg Stevens.
The Pride and Capitales will conclude their series tomorrow evening at Historic Holman Stadium starting at 5:05 pm. Nashua will send RHP Jason Paul (4-4) to the mound, Quebec will counter with RHP Orlando Trias (7-6).
