Worcester Tornadoes News Release
WORCESTER - The Tornadoes battled back from two deficits but couldn't hold on as the Ottawa Rapidz squeaked out their second-consecutive win, 4-3 on an action-packed Saturday night which included a surprise appearance from Roger Clemens, a marriage proposal, and postgame fireworks at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
Shaun McNamara pitched six strong innings while allowing three runs (all earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Anthony Sullivan was impressive in relief, pitching two scoreless frames, surrendering only one hit and striking out four. The Tornadoes only managed five hits off Ottawa's trio of Jacob Ramos, Matthew Tosoni, and Cardoza Tucker with Alex Trezza, Chuck Jeroloman, and Omar Pena picking up the RBIs. Eddie Pena was handed his second-consecutive defeat in relief after allowing the go-ahead run in the ninth inning.
After retiring the first five batters of the game, McNamara gave up three consecutive two-out, second-inning singles to Jereme Milons, Pete Pirman, and Nate Hall. Hall's single up the middle produced the run, plating Milons from second to make it 1-0 in favor of Ottawa.
In the fourth, Worcester took advantage of wildness from Ramos by turning three walks, a hit by pitch, and single into a pair of runs. Trezza and Jeroloman picked up the RBIs with bases loaded walks which scored B.J. Weed and Chris Colabello for the 2-1 lead.
The Rapidz got two of their own in the sixth to retake the lead when Kyle Geiger homered for the second time in as many nights and Jared Lemieux was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Omar Pena's RBI groundout in the bottom of the inning plated Francisco Caraballo to tie the game at three.
Jabe Bergeron hit an opposite field double with one out in the ninth off Eddie Pena to score Lemieux (who had walked leading off the inning and was sacrificed to second base) for the 4-3 lead. Cardoza Tucker came in and shut the door in the bottom of the ninth for his sixth save of the season and second in as many nights.
The series and home schedule concludes on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. with Kyle Jackson taking the hill opposite Adam Hawes. It is the final regular season home game with a special Tykes Club pizza party planned!
