New England Revolution Fall on the Road at Inter Miami CF, 2-1

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The New England Revolution (7-2-3; 24 pts.) were defeated on the road against Inter Miami CF (5-6-0; 15 pts.), 2-1, at DRV PNK Stadium on Saturday night. The loss snaps New England's unbeaten run at eight games as the Revolution's away record moves to 3-2-1 on the season.

Inter Miami CF took an early lead in the sixth minute on a goal from David Ruiz, whose shot ricocheted off Dave Romney and past Djordje Petrovic. The Revolution responded well, as Noel Buck made a defender miss at the top of the area and then drilled a left-footed shot inside the far post. However, a video review ruled out the goal for offside, leaving the visitors in a one-nil hole.

New England's captain Carles Gil erased that deficit in the 26th minute with a right-footed shot that beat Drake Callender to his left side. The goal was assisted by DeJuan Jones and Matt Polster. The goal was Gil's third of the season to go with his team-high four assists. Before the half, Miami pulled ahead once again with a goal from close range by Josef Martinez, which proved to be the game-winner.

The two sides were battling to a stalemate in the second half when New England received a late lifeline when Miami's Ruiz was sent off with a second yellow card in the 81st minute. The Revolution applied pressure through the final whistle, but they were unable to benefit from the man advantage.

The Revolution conceded multiple goals in a game for the first time since March 12, also their last loss in league play. It is also the team's first defeat against an Eastern Conference opponent this season in nine games (5-1-3). Despite the loss, the Revolution remain in first place through Matchday 12, level on points with FC Cincinnati.

MATCH NOTES

Carles Gil notched his third goal of the campaign, an equalizer in the 26th minute, to open the scoring for New England. Gil led the Revolution with three chances created and eight duels won.

In five career appearances against Inter Miami, Carles Gil has tallied two goals and three assists.

Matt Polster provided his first assist of the season on Gil's tally - the 15th of his MLS career.

DeJuan Jones registered his third assist of the year, a secondary helper, on Gil's goal. Gil's 111 touches and 74 completed passes, both team highs, are the second highest single-game totals of his career.

Noel Buck had a goal disallowed after video review. The 18-year-old Homegrown midfielder made his 13th appearance and 10th start of the season.

Andrew Farrell recorded team highs in possessions won (14) and clearances (3).
