
Houston Dynamo FC to Host Minnesota United FC in the Round of 16 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup

HOUSTON - Houston Dynamo FC will host Minnesota United FC in the Round of 16 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at 7:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday, May 23 at Shell Energy Stadium. The matchup was determined on Thursday in a live draw and the full results are available here.
Dynamo 365 Members will have an exclusive presale window on Monday, May 15 or Tuesday, May 16. Each window is determined by the location of their seat in the venue. Tickets for the match start at $12 and will be available to all fans on Tuesday, May 16 at 6:01 p.m. CT HERE.
The Dynamo reached the Round of 16 with a 1-0 victory on Wednesday at Shell Energy Stadium over Sporting Kansas City. Houston tallied their sixth clean sheet at home and seventh of the year in all competitions. Forward Thor Ulfarsson scored the lone goal of the match and his first of the year to secure Houston's spot in the next round.
Minnesota United advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating the Philadelphia Union in a penalty shootout following a 3-3 draw in regulation. Minnesota enters this weekend with a 3-4-3 (WLD) record in regular season play and travels to Kansas this weekend to face Sporting KC.
This is the third meeting between both teams in the tournament in the Round of 16. Houston won the first meeting 1-0 in 2018 and would go on to win the title that year. Minnesota United won 3-2 the following year and reached the final, falling to Atlanta United in Georgia.
Information regarding broadcast and/or streaming will be announced in the near future. The winner of the Dynamo and Minnesota match will advance to face the winner of Austin FC and Chicago Fire FC on June 6 or 7 in the quarterfinals. The winner of the Austin and Chicago match will host the quarterfinal match in June. Additionally, the winner of the Central Region will face the winner of the West Region in the semifinals.
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is a single-elimination tournament to determine the champion of American soccer. Teams from every level of soccer are included, from local amateur and semi-pro sides up to Major League Soccer. Founded in 1914, the Open Cup is the oldest national soccer competition in the United States and the second-oldest team championship in American sports. The 2023 tournament is the 108th edition of the competition.
