STAMPEDE ADDS COREY UNDERWOOD TO ROSTER
The Idaho Stampede announced the acquisition of forward Cory Underwood. Underwood spent the last three seasons with the Albuquerque Thunderbirds. In seven games this season with Albuquerque, he averaged 8.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.0 assists. The Southern University graduate is no stranger to professional basketball. He began his basketball career in 2004 with the Trenton Jersey Squires in the ABA before attending training camp with the New York Knicks. Underwood then went on to play in the USBL before joining the Thunderbirds in the NBA D-League for the 2006-07 season. He will join the Stampede to take on the Utah Flash tonight.
FORMER VIPER SHANNON BROWN TO COMPETE IN NBA SLAM DUNK CONTEST
The Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced that Los Angeles Lakers guard and fomer Viper Shannon Brown will be competing in the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest on February 13 at American Airlines Center in Dallas, part of NBA All-Star Saturday. Brown is the first former Viper to compete in an event during NBA All-Star Weekend. Brown will compete alongside New York Knicks guard Nate Robinson and Charlotte forward Gerald Wallace. A fourth player will be determined through a "dunk-off" between Los Angeles Clippers guard Eric Gordon and Toronto Raptors forward DeMar DeRozan. Brown was an NBA assignment player for Rio Grande Valley during the Vipers inaugural 2007-08 season. Brown, then a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers a former Vipers affiliate, averaged 23.8 points and 4.5 rebounds for the Vipers over the course of four games.
