Native Californian Nathan Horne Returns to the Falcons

Fresno Falcons News Release

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons have signed defenseman Nathan Horne and center Jim Lorentz to contracts for the upcoming 2004-05 ECHL season.

Horne is a native of Apple Valley, Calif., and returns for a second year in Fresno, where he played his final 43 games after beginning last season with three different ECHL teams. A stay-at-home blueliner who spent one season each with the Tacoma Sabercats and the Long Beach Ice Dogs in the West Coast Hockey League, Horne finished 2003-04 with the second highest +/- rating on the Falcons among those players that played more than 30 games with the team.

Lorentz played his entire rookie campaign with the South Carolina Stingrays last year before the Falcons acquired and protected his rights at the end of the season to complete an earlier trade for Boris Protsenko. Prior to turning pro, Lorentz spent four years at St. Lawrence University, where he recorded 68 points (31g-37a) in 142 games played.

"We knew Nathan Horne from the old WCHL and quite honestly just brought him in last season to give us an extra body," said Falcons General Manager Blaine Moore. "But he improved immensely from the day he got here until the day he left and at times was our best defenseman."

Moore continued, "Jim Lorentz caught our eye at the start of last season when he turned heads at the Buffalo Sabres' training camp. When we made our moves late last year to build for this year, Jim was the guy we knew we wanted from South Carolina. He has above average speed, is gifted offensively and has the ability to play both ends of the ice."

Fresno will battle the Bakersfield Condors in a home-and-home pre-season series on Oct. 15 and 16 before opening the 2004-05 ECHL regular season on Oct. 22 against the Las Vegas Wranglers at Save Mart Center. Full season ticket packages and Flex Packs are on sale beginning as low as $42.
