Another Curtin Call
September 7, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. â The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the ECHL have agreed to terms on a contract with veteran forward Luke Curtin for the 2004-05 season. Curtin is the eighth returning player to the roster and becomes the 17th signed player under Head Coach Matt Thomas for the upcoming year.
Curtin, 26, finished either first or tied for first on the 2003-04 Bullies in eight different offensive categories including goals, points, power play goals, shorthanded goals, shootout goals, and game-winning goals. His 33 goals and 78 points in 64 games placed Curtin eighth overall in the ECHL scoring race and earned him a spot on the All-ECHL First Team. The Roseville, MN native also spent the final three weeks of the regular season with Bridgeport of the American Hockey League and notched 1 goal and 6 points in 10 games.
"I'm very excited about once again being apart of this organization," said Curtin. "With Matt (Thomas) being named head coach and with the uncertainties surrounding the lockout, I knew that it was in my best interest to return to Atlantic City. I love the area, the fans are great, and I'm looking forward to winning another championship."
"Luke Curtin is a marquee player, the kind of player that every coach in this league would love to have," said Thomas. "His scoring abilities are well documented, but Luke also brings veteran leadership to a young group and most importantly, he makes us a very dangerous team."
Curtin bounced back from an injury-plagued regular season two years ago to lead the Bullies to their first ever Kelly Cup Championship in 2003 as he finished the post-season with 2 goals and 20 points in 19 games. Curtin is the Bullies all-time playoff-scoring leader with 8 goals and 35 points in 31 games.
"Along with Stefan Rivard, Luke Curtin has symbolized what Boardwalk Bullies hockey is all about over the past three years," said Vice President and General Manager Dan Belisle. "He is the face of this organization both on and off the ice and we are thrilled to have him back for another season."
Curtin is a former 5th-round draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche from the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. He has tallied 159 goals and 394 points in 372 career games over seven pro seasons.
Operation: 1,700 is now underway. The Bullies have set a goal to secure 1,700 season tickets between now and Opening Night 2004, October 29 against the Trenton Titans. IT'S TIME FOR ACTION!
