Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Washington Nationals announced today that their Player Development Contract with Harrisburg has been extended four more seasons. The current agreement between the Nationals and the double-A Senators was set to expire at the end of the 2006 season. The new deal will extend the agreement until September 30, 2010.

Members of the Washington Nationals' front office were on hand today and made the announcement prior to the Senators' season-opening game with the Erie Sea Wolves at Commerce Bank Park.

Andy Dunn, Washington's Director, Player Development, made the announcement from the field as part of the pre-game ceremonies. Dunn stated that the Nationals are quite pleased having Harrisburg as the team's double-A affiliate. He said the outstanding working relationship with the Senators and Harrisburg's close proximity to the Nationals in Washington, D.C., as major factors in extending the agreement.

Harrisburg General Manager Todd Vander Woude agrees. "We had a fabulous relationship with Montreal and an even better arrangement now that the team is in Washington. With all that goes on behind the scenes, it has been a wonderful experience working with the Nationals' front office."

Harrisburg began its modern history in 1987 as the double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. After four seasons with Pittsburgh, Harrisburg switched their affiliation over to Montreal in 1991. When major league baseball moved the Expos to Washington, D.C. in 2005, the Senators remained a part of the new major league franchise.

At the end of the new extension, the Senators will have been a part of the Montreal/Washington family for 20 years.
