Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

On the eve of the B-Mets season opener, the team announced a two-year extension of its Player Development Contract with the New York Mets at the annual "Welcome Home Dinner" Wednesday night at the Binghamton Regency. The existing agreement was due to expire at the end of the 2006 season, but the extension ensures that New York will continue to furnish minor league players to the B-Mets through 2008.

"The Binghamton Mets are thrilled to continue our successful partnership with our parent Mets," said Binghamton GM Scott Brown. "The bond between New York and Binghamton has never been stronger, and we look forward to contributing through player development to the success of the big league club."

New York's active roster consists of four starters who logged time with the Binghamton Mets. Righthanded pitcher Brian Bannister, the 2005 Mets Minor League Pitcher of the Year, began last season in Binghamton and made his major league debut in a starting role earlier this evening. Three-quarters of the big club's starting infield (2nd baseman Anderson Hernandez, shortstop Jose Reyes and 3rd baseman David Wright) all played in Binghamton within the past two seasons. Relief pitcher Aaron Heilman and outfielder Victor Diaz also represent B-Mets alumni with the NY Mets.

The B-Mets will open the franchise's 15th season tomorrow night at 6 o'clock against the defending Eastern League Champion Akron Aeros. The New York Mets have affiliated with Binghamton since the team's inception in 1992. The team's current 15-year affiliation with New York ranks fourth in the 12-team Eastern League in terms of longevity behind Reading (40-Phillies), Akron (18-Indians) & Harrisburg (16-Expos/Nationals).
