Nashville SC Travels to FC Cincinnati in Leagues Cup 2023 Round of 32
August 3, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nashville SC enters the knockout rounds of the Leagues Cup 2023 as it travels to take on FC Cincinnati in the Round of 32 at TQL Stadium on Friday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. CT. Fans can follow the action on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV and on radio on 104.5 The Zone.
Nashville SC finished second in its Central 4 group after a 2-1 win over Colorado Rapids and a 4-3 loss to Toluca at GEODIS Park on July 23 and July 27, respectively, and as result travels to the first seeded team Central 3, FC Cincinnati.
The third meeting in all competitions this year between these sides comes after two MLS matches that saw Cincinnati recoup from 0W-2D-2L to a 2W-2D-2L all-time record. Come Friday, Nashville SC will look to record its first win of 2023 over Cincinnati by capitalizing on its current goal-scoring form.
Nashville SC opened a three-match scoring streak against FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium on July 15, 2023, in its last MLS competition prior to the beginning of Leagues Cup play. Since then five players have scored a total of six goals for the Boys in Gold.
Today, Nashville SC Head Coach Gary Smith and players Sean Davis and Ethan Zubak discussed with media the challenge of going back to face a side that is considered one of the best in MLS this season. Additionally, Coach Smith spoke about the inclusion of newly signed Designated Player Sam Surridge into tomorrow's lineup. Media can access the recording of Smith's press conference here and players here.
Nashville SC must win this match to remain part of Leagues Cup 2023, as the tournament has reached its single-elimination knockout stage. As with group stage, there will be no draws in this tournament. Should both sides end regulation time on level terms, both teams will immediately enter a penalty shootout to determine the winner of the match. How does Leagues Cup work?
