D.C. United News Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United have signed Panamanian National Team defender Éric Davis using General Allocation Money (GAM) pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). The Black-and-Red have signed the defender through 2023 with options in 2024 and 2025.
"Éric is a veteran left-back who provides quality service, intelligence on both sides of the ball, and a high degree of professionalism," Dave Kasper, D.C. United President of Soccer Operations, said. "He has a ton of international experience with the Panama National team, and we're excited to integrate him with the team and bolster our roster."
Davis joins the Black-and-Red after spending the 2023 season with Slovakian first division side DAC Dunajska Streda. He signed with DAC Dunajska Streda from Panamanian side CD Árabe Unido on Sept. 11, 2015. Davis made his debut with DAC Dunajska Streda on March 11, 2017 in a 3-1 win against 1.FC Tatran Presov in the Slovnaft Cup. His first goal for the club came in a 2-2 draw against MSK Zilina on March 11, 2017. Over eight seasons, Davis scored 20 goals and recorded 32 assists in 196 appearances for DAC Dunajska Streda across all competitions.
The Panama native started his professional career in Panama playing for CD Árabe Unido and signed his first professional contract with the club in 2009 at 18-years-old. The defender made his debut on July 30, 2009 in a 2-1 CONCACAF Champions League loss to CD Olimpia of Honduras. He made six appearances for the club then signed with Uruguayan first division side CA Fénix on Aug. 19, 2011. Davis made three appearances for CA Fénix before returning to Panama's first division, where he signed with Sporting San Miguelito on July 17, 2013. He made a total of nine appearances for Sporting San Miguelito. On July 1, 2015, Davis returned to CD Árabe Unido on a permanent transfer before signing with Slovakian first division side DAC Dunajska Streda later that same year.
The defender represents Panama at the international level and made his national team debut on Aug. 11, 2010 in a 3-1 win over Venezuela. Davis scored his first national team goal on June 22, 2019 in 4-2 Gold Cup win over Guyana. The 32-year-old has been a vital part of Panama's defense over the past eight seasons participating in the 2015 and 2023 Gold Cups, CONCACAF Nations League, the Copa Centroamericana, and the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Davis helped Panama secure second place in the 2023 Gold Cup with three assists over five games. Thus far, Davis has appeared in 78 matches for Panama, scoring five goals and recording 11 assists.
