New York Red Bulls Defeat New York City FC, 1-0, Advance to Leagues Cup Round of 16

New York Red Bulls defeat New York City FC, 1-0 at Red Bull Arena on Thursday night.

Midfielder Omir Fernandez opened the match's scoring after slotting away a penalty kick in the 31st minute.

The goal from Fernandez was his fifth of the season across all competitions, putting him into a tie with Dante Vanzeir for the club lead.

Fernandez' goal was the 13th of his career across all competitions, and his fourth against NYCFC.

Three of the four goals Fernandez has scored against NYCFC have been game-winning goals.

Goalkeeper Carlos Coronel recorded his seventh shutout of the season and his 30th career one for New York across all competitions.

The Red Bulls have recorded eight shutouts across all competitions this season.

New York has posted a 18-2-6 record at Red Bull Arena in competitions excluding MLS regular season and playoffs.

The Red Bulls have posted a 15-2-2 mark against NYCFC at Red Bull Arena across all competitions, including a 4-0-0 mark in other competitions outside of MLS.

New York has advanced to the 2023 Leagues Cup Round of 16 and will face off against Philadelphia Union on Monday, August 7.
