Nailers Sign Forward Matt Elich

WHEELING, WV – The Wheeling Nailers announce today the signing of forward Matt Elich. He was assigned to the Nailers by the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League. Elich is expected to be in uniform Wednesday night at Richmond when the Nailers play the Renegades.

The 6'1", 200 pound native of Grosse Point, MI was a third round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. Elich has appeared in 16 games in the NHL with Tampa Bay, eight games in the 1999-2000 season and eight games in the 2000-2001 season. He also played in the International Hockey League and the American Hockey League in his first three seasons of professional hockey.

Elich began this season with the Pensacola Ice Pilots of the ECHL and appeared in 12 games scoring eight points on four goals and four assists.

The Nailers play two home games this weekend at the Wheeling Civic Center. On Friday night the Reading Royals are in town for Nailers Coffee Mug Night. The first 1,500 fans will receive a Nailers coffee mug courtesy of Emstar, OVMC and East Ohio Regional Hospital. On Saturday the Dayton Bombers are in town for WTOV-9 Rally Towel Night. The first 2,000 fans will receive a rally towel courtesy of WTOV-9, and all seats that night will be priced at $9.00. Both home games begin at 7:30p.m.
