Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, have announced a transaction, taking effect immediately. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have loaned goaltender Peter Mannino to the Nailers.

Mannino, 29, is entering his sixth season of professional hockey, spending parts of his first five years in the NHL, AHL, and ECHL. After a four-year career at the University of Denver, Peter started his pro career in 2008-09, playing in 34 games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, nine with the Utah Grizzlies, and three with the New York Islanders. The Farmington Hills, MI native combined to post a 22-16-4 record during his rookie campaign, leading him into a remarkable sophomore season with the Chicago Wolves, in which he went 26-5-1. After two more seasons in the Atlanta/Winnipeg organization, Mannino joined the Manchester Monarchs for the 2012-13 season, where he was 10-7-0, with a 2.47 goals against average, and a .919 save percentage.

Peter Mannino becomes the second affiliated goaltender added to the roster this season, joining Mike Condon, who is property of the Montreal Canadiens. He is also the ninth player on the team with either an AHL or NHL contract, joining Condon (MTL), Stefan Chaput (HAM), Matt Grassi (HAM), Stephen MacAulay (HAM), Denver Manderson (WBS), Christiaan Minella (WBS), Carter Rowney (WBS), and Cody Sylvester (WBS).

In a separate transaction, the Nailers signed forward Jack MacLellan to an ECHL contract. MacLellan attended AHL Training Camp with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, following his rookie season, which was split between the Milwaukee Admirals and Cincinnati Cyclones.

Mannino is expected to be in uniform on Wednesday night, when the Nailers play their final home preseason game against the Fort Wayne Komets at 7:00.
