Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - The Las Vegas Wranglers, along with Head Coach and General Manager Mike Madill, announced Tuesday that Michael Lawrence has been named the team's goaltending coach for the upcoming season.
Lawrence comes to the Wranglers after eight years in the Ontario Hockey League, working as the goaltending coach to the Sudbury Wolves, Owen Sound Attack, and Oshawa Generals. From 2008 to 2010, he coached overseas with HC Sibir Novosibirisk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), and was part of the national goaltending development program for Hockey Canada from 2011 to 2013.
Owner of Pro Goaltending since 2006, Lawrence has also helped develop NHL and NHL-drafted goalie talent while the players were in various junior hockey leagues. Clients of his have included NHL goaltender Michal Neuvirth (Washington Capitals), and NHL-drafted goaltenders Malcolm Subban (Boston Bruins, 1st round, 2012), Mark Visentin (Phoenix Coyotes, 1st round, 2010) and Tyler Beskorowany (Dallas Stars, 2nd round, 2008), who has appeared in games for the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads. Wranglers goaltender Mitch O'Keefe was also a client prior to Lawrence joining the team.
"In the hockey community, Las Vegas is known as the jewel of the ECHL, and it's such a great honor to be part of this organization," said Lawrence. "Having reached the Kelly Cup Finals in 2008 and 2012, I'm looking forward to working with Mike [Madill] and the rest of the staff to bring a championship to Las Vegas."
The Wranglers open their eleventh season of hockey in Las Vegas on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 7:05 p.m. against the Utah Grizzlies.
