Blades Agree to Terms with Blueliner Cornell
October 8, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Florida Everblades News Release
Estero, FL - Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush, along with Head Coach Greg Poss, announced Tuesday that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Mike Cornell for the upcoming 2013-14 season.
Cornell, 25, came to the Blades late in the 2012-13 season after wrapping up a decorated four-year career at the University of Maine that saw the defender post six goals and 24 assists with a lifetime plus-7 rating.
"Mike was a great player for us last year toward the end of the season and into the playoffs," noted Poss, who got his first look at Cornell in late March. "He's really competitive and a real team-first guy, so we're happy to have him back."
During the 2012-13 season, Cornell served as captain of Maine's squad in the prestigious Hockey East conference, picking up 10 points (3g, 7a). He was named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team in 2010.
After coming to the Blades, the Franklin, Mass., native was plus-7 in six regular season games before a plus-8 showing during the 2013 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Between the regular season and playoffs, Cornell posted nine assists in 19 appearances.
