Nailers Captain Rob Siranni Called Up To Philadelphia
December 26, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release
The Wheeling Nailers, the proud AA affiliate of the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins and the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, have announced a number of roster moves as they return from the holiday break and get ready for action again.
Rob Sirianni and Aaron Clarke will be getting callups to the AHL with Philadelphia and Binghamton respectively. Kelly Miller is going to be activated from the I/R and will be eligible to return to the lineup tonight. The Philadelphia Phantoms are the AHL affiliate of the Phildelphia Flyers and the Binghamton Senators are the AHL affiliate for the Ottawa Senators. Since Sirianni and Clarke are not on contract to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton they are both eligible to be loaned to AHL teams in other organizations.
Sirianni going to Philadelphia will be his second trip to the AHL this year after a 3 week stay with Binghamton in which he played in 6 games and scored one goal (on a penalty shot). The Edmonton, Alta. native has been red-hot with the Nailers since his return a couple weeks ago scoring 9 goals in 6 games including 3 multi-goal games. He had a hat trick on December 14 vs. Reading which was his first in over 6 years. He also recorded 2 goal performances on December 12 at Cincinnati and December 20 at Johnstown.
The Bemidji State product leads the Nailers with 17 goals in just 18 games and is 5th in the ECHL. Sirianni played in 6 games for Binghamton from November 21 through December 5 before his return to the Nailers on December 14 in which he went 9+5=14 in 6 games in December. He has scored a point in 17 out of his 18 games with the Nailers this season. Sirianni is also the ECHL leader in plus/minus rating at +19, just one ahead of Nailers teammate Mitch Ganzak.
Aaron Clarke is 2nd on the team in scoring with 31 points trailing only Rob Sirianni. The Robert Morris University product is in his second season with the Nailers and this will be his first call up to the AHL. He leads the team in assists with 22 and is 3rd in the ECHL. He also has 9 goals this season with Wheeling. The Peterborough, Ontario native played in 60 games with Wheeling last year scoring 19 goals and 17 helpers.
Kelly Miller is a veteran from Toledo, Ohio who will return to the lineup following a minor injury. He has played on Coach Puhalski led teams for several years. Last year with the Nailers he appeared in 31 games recording 4 goals and 6 assists. He scored a career high 18 goals with Rockford of the IHL in 03-04. He has one goal this year on November 22 at Cincinnati. He has played in 2 games this season with Wheeling.
The Nailers are back in action this weekend with a pair of home games on Friday and Saturday nights.
Friday night against the Reading Royals at 7:35 is Team Photo Oversized Christmas Card Giveaway for the first 2500 fans courtesy of Smitty Floors and McDonalds. Saturday night against the Cincinnati Cyclones is Moondog Bobblehead giveaway for the first 5000 fans courtesy of Perkins, Generations, Convenient Food Mart and Jackson Hewitt. The Nailers also have a great home game on New Years Eve this Wednesday night at 7:05 vs. the Cincinnati Cyclones featuring overnight packages which include 2 tickets, hotel room and New Years Eve Party at Generations.
