Nailers Announce 2015-16 Home Schedule
April 23, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, have announced their home schedule for the 2015-16 regular season. 32 of the 36 home games will be played on weekends, while one of the weekdays is the return of the popular New Year's Eve game.
After opening the season on the road, the Nailers will take WesBanco Arena ice for their home opener on Saturday, October 24th, when the Brampton Beast make their first ever trip to West Virginia. While October features only three home games, all three clubs are first time guests, as the Adirondack Thunder pay a visit on Friday the 30th, before the Quad City Mallards waddle in on Halloween.
November's seven-game home slate begins with three familiar faces, as the Kalamazoo Wings fly in on the 6th, followed by a midweek tilt with the Cincinnati Cyclones on the 10th, and the first of six visits by the Reading Royals on the 13th. Wheeling plays its only two home games against the Evansville IceMen on the 14th and 15th, before closing out the month on Thanksgiving Eve against Reading, and three days later against Brampton.
December opens with the first regular season visit by the South Carolina Stingrays since 2013, as WesBanco Arena will see three games in three days on the 4th, 5th, and 6th. South Carolina is the opposition for the first two, followed by the Elmira Jackals on the Sunday. One other game takes place prior to the holidays, as the rivalry from the playoff series against Toledo will be renewed on the 12th. A Sunday game against Kalamazoo on the 27th will lead the team into New Year's Eve, when the Nailers will battle Brampton.
The Beast are also on the schedule to start January on the 2nd, which will turn out to be the busiest home month of the campaign, featuring eight games. The Norfolk Admirals get to bring back memories of an old ECHL rivalry the following day, as they are one of three cities to join the league from the AHL. There will be two weekends completely filled with home games in the first month of the calendar year, as Wheeling will see the Orlando Solar Bears twice and Indy Fuel once on the 8th, 9th, and 10th, before clashing with Kalamazoo twice and Brampton once on the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th.
February features a 19-day gap without a home game, which should give fans plenty of time to rest their voices, after what should be an upbeat two-game series with Reading on the 5th and 6th. When the team returns to town, it will face Greenville on the 26th, followed by back-to-back tilts against Elmira on the 27th and 28th.
When it comes to full months (not counting October & April), March will be the smallest at home, as there will only be four contests at WesBanco Arena in 31 days, which includes three games in three days on the 11th, 12th and 13th. Toledo, Kalamazoo, and Norfolk will be the opposition for those battles, followed by another clash with the Walleye on Tuesday the 22nd.
There should be plenty of fooling around on April 1st, when the Royals play the first of consecutive Friday games in the Ohio Valley, which includes the regular season home finale on the 8th. Between those two dates, the Nailers will play their first ever home game against the Manchester Monarchs on the 2nd.
The 2015-16 home schedule for the Wheeling Nailers consists of 11 Fridays, 13 Saturdays, and eight Sundays, making up 32 of the 36 home dates. Reading (6) is the most frequent of 15 home opponents for the Nailers, followed by Brampton (5), Kalamazoo (5), Toledo (3), Elmira (3), Norfolk (2), South Carolina (2), Orlando (2), Evansville (2), Cincinnati (1), Indy (1), Greenville (1), Quad City (1), Adirondack (1), and Manchester (1).
Times for the 2015-16 schedule will be released at a later date.
