Colorado Eagles News Release
Eagles Reign on Ontario's Parade, 4-3 LOVELAND, Colo. -The Colorado Eagles (2-2-0-0) showed strong resolve, coming back from a goal down in the second to even the series against the Ontario Reign (2-2-0-0), 5-1, Wednesday night at the Budweiser Events Center.
For the second straight game, Colorado started the scoring. Forward Kyle Kraemer curled around the net, feeding linemate Trent Daavettila in front of a wide-open net, putting the Eagles up 1-0 2:12 into the first period. Unlike Game Three, the Eagles built on their lead. With 8:56 remaining in the first, forward Chris Knowlton attempted a wrap-around, but found linemate Vitalijs Pavlovs instead, who squeezed his second goal in consecutive games past Ontario netminder Jussi Olkinuora, putting the Eagles ahead 2-0. With just five seconds remaining, Ontario forward Judd Blackwater scrapped in the crease before shoving home the Reign's first goal, pulling Ontario within one, 2-1.
After 10 minutes had elapsed in the second frame, Blackwater struck again, this time on the power play, firing a one-timer past Eagles goaltender Clarke Saunders to tie the game at two. Three minutes and 45 seconds later, Reign forward Gary Nunn sniped the Reign into a 3-2 lead, however it wouldn't last. Eagles forward Trent Daavettila patiently maneuvered around the slot, before tossing the puck into a wide-open net, evening the game once again at three goals apiece.
Eagles forward Brock Nixon continued his trend of scoring big goals when he netted a rebound with 5:21 remaining in the game. The Reign mounted a furious rush in the final 20 seconds, but the Eagles were equal to the test.
Saunders stopped 22 of 25 shots on the night, helping the Eagles even the First-Round series at two games apiece. Game Five will be played in Colorado on Friday at 7:05 PM.
