Myrtle Beach Pelicans Game Notes

June 4, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

After a 4-1 win last night, the Pelicans play the middle game of three game set in Lynchburg against the Hillcats. First pitch at City Stadium is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. and game notes are attached.

RHP Barret Loux (4-3, 3.75) at LHP Chris Masters (3-2, 3.00)

INSIDE JOB: Leury Garcia's first home run of 2011 was a special one. One of the fastest baserunners in the Carolina League showed off his speed in the ninth inning last night as he blazed around the bases on an inside-the-park home run. Former Pelican L.V. Ware crashed into the wall chasing Garcia's fly ball into the left field corner and had the wind knocked out of him. By the time he got up and the ball went in, Garcia had zipped all the way home. Garcia had been in a 5-for-46 slump before a sixth-inning double that preceded the ninth-inning dash. The Pelicans' first inside-the-parker was by Wilson Betemit on June 11, 2001 against Lynchburg.

STRANDED, AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD: The Pelicans and Hillcats combined to leave a small village on the bases last night as both teams left ten men aboard. The Pelicans left a man on in seven innings, including two in the fourth, sixth and ninth. Lynchburg left multiple runners three times, squandering a second and third, no out situation in the fourth and leaving the bases loaded in the fifth.

SCOREBOARD WATCHING: The Pelicans got some help during their win last night as Winston-Salem beat Kinston 3-1 and Frederick beat Salem 4-2. The Birds lead the K-Tribe by four and a half games and Salem by five and a half.
