CarL1 Frederick Keys

With Win, Keys Improve to 9-1 over Last 10 Games

June 4, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

The Keys scored four runs in the first two innings on Saturday night as they won their sixth straight game over the Salem Red Sox, 4-1. RHP Oliver Drake improved to 4-2 on the year after allowing just one run over 7.1 innings of work. CF Trent Mummey returned to the Keys lineup on Saturday and went 1-for-4 with a RBI, run scored, and two stolen bases. Mummey missed 29 games after he sustained a concussion on May 4th. With the win, Frederick improved to 33-22 and now sits atop the Northern Division in the Carolina League by three and a half games.

Salem's Chris Hernandez entered Saturday's contest with the fifth-best ERA in the Carolina League at 2.20. Hernandez, however, surrendered three runs in his last start, a loss against the Keys on May 29th. Frederick picked up early runs against Hernandez once again. The Keys scored two runs in the first inning including a solo home run by 2B Bobby Stevens. Stevens has five homers on the season which surpasses his total in the 2010 season.

Frederick added two more runs against Hernandez in the second inning. With one out and LF Steve Bumbry on second, CF Trent Mummey singled home Bumbry on a line drive to left-center to give the Keys a 3-0 lead. Mummey then proceeded to steal second and third base with Bobby Stevens at the plate. Following a Stevens walk, 1B Tyler Townsend hit a sac fly to deep left field. After two innings, Frederick led Salem, 4-0.

The four-run advantage was plenty for Oliver Drake as he scattered seven hits over 7.1 innings. The lone Red Sox run off Drake came on a Dan Butler RBI single in the fourth.

LHP Chris Petrini entered for Drake with one out and two on in the top of the eighth inning. Petrini struck out the left-handed Peter Hissey and then exited for closer Sean Gleason. Gleason sat down 3B Kolbrin Vitek to end the eighth and then tossed a scoreless ninth en route to his, Carolina League leading, 14th save of the year.

The Keys go for the sweep of the Salem Red Sox on Sunday afternoon. LHP Nick Haughian (1-3, 4.86) takes the hill for Frederick in the finale while Salem turns to LHP Drake Britton (1-5, 6.30). First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

Sunday is Sunday Family Funday presented by Dick's Sporting Goods at Harry Grove Stadium. Enjoy catch on the outfield grass from 1-1:30 p.m. as well as grab autographs from your favorite Keys players. For tickets call 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at www.frederickkeys.com.
