Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

The middle game of a weekend set between the Pelicans and Lynchburg Hillcats is set to begin at 7:05 p.m. at BB&T Coastal Field. Robbie Ross, tied for the league lead in wins with four, will try to even the series for the Pelicans against Carolina League ERA leader Chris Masters. Game notes are attached.

HAD TO HAPPEN SOMETIME: The Pelicans were out of last night's 8-1 loss from the start, but it was the first time in 34 games that Myrtle Beach had been blown out of a game. Eight of the Birds' previous 12 losses were by one run and two others were by two runs. The largest margin of defeat before last night had been four, which occurred twice, on April 21 at Kinston and April 29 vs. Frederick. The Pelicans' run differential of +56 is by far the best in the Carolina League, well ahead of Salem's +37.

BEST ON THE MOUND TOO: The Myrtle Beach offense is the best in the Carolina League as they lead the circuit in batting average and runs scored, but the pitching staff is also tops in the league. The Pelicans' hurlers have allowed the fewest runs in the loop and lead the league in ERA with a 2.91 mark, more than eight-tenths of a run lower than the league average of 3.73. Their .219 batting average against is also the best in the league. They've also racked up the most strikeouts with 306, 27 more than second-ranked Kinston.
