Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Myrtle Beach, SC - Myrtle Beach left-handed starter, Robbie Ross, has had the Hillcats number this season, so far 2-0 with 12 scoreless innings. Six of those blank frames came Saturday night as Ross worked out of a few two-out jams, stranding eight runners through his six innings of work.
Pelicans' third baseman Mike Olt put the Birds on the board in the first inning with a two-out two-run home run over the left field wall, making it 2-0 after the first.
Myrtle Beach added to their lead in the third inning. Back-to-back doubles from Zach Zaneski and Jared Bolden plated one putting the Pelicans up 3-0.
Two more scored for the home team in the fourth. Jared Prince singled and Jared Hoying doubled putting runners at second and third for shortstop Leury Garcia. Garcia singled to right field scoring both Jareds, but Garcia would try to stretch his hit into a double and get thrown out at second base to end the inning.
The Hillcats had their share of runners on base but could never get the big hit. Lycnhburg stranded eight runners through the first six innings against Ross. The Hillcats failed to score a run Saturday night, getting shutout for the third time this season. Florence, SC native, INF Barrett Kleinknecht, went 3-for-4 in front of many friends and family, but couldn't get his team on the scoreboard.
Ross (5-1) tossed six scoreless innings against the Hillcats as he earned his league leading fifth win of the season. Chris Masters (3-1) suffered his first loss of the year as he was tagged for five earned runs in five innings of work. Reliever Johan Yan pitched the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings, getting credit for his fourth save of the season.
The Hillcats fall to 12-21 on the season with the loss. Meanwhile, the Pelicans improve to 22-13 and into a tie for first place in the Carolina League Southern Division.
The series is now tied at one game apiece; with the rubber match set for Sunday afternoon at 3:05 pm. Listen to all the action starting with the Hillcats On-Deck Show at 2:40 pm on 105.5 KD Country and the Hillcats Radio Network.
