Frederick Keys News Release

The Keys could only bang out four hits on the evening as they were perplexed by the off-speed arsenal of Kinston LHP Giovanny Soto in a 5-0 defeat at Grainger Stadium Saturday night. It is the first time the Keys have been shutout in a nine-inning game in 2011.

Soto, a 19-year old starter, held the Keys at bay throughout the night. Only 3B Dale Mollenhauer registered a multi-hit game.

Kinston jumped on top early after consecutive singles to start the game. With runners at second and third base, RF Bo Greenwell chopped a ball that eluded the grasp of Keys 1B Tyler Townsend scoring both runners.

The Indians would extend the lead with a two-out rally in the fourth inning. After consecutive base hits and a walk loaded the bases, SS Casey Frawley lined a two-run single to left-field to up the Indians lead to 4-0.

The Keys turned to relief pitcher Nick Haughian in the fifth inning with a run home and the bases loaded. With one down Haughian enticed a double play ground ball to elude further damage. He went on to work 3 and 2/3rd scoreless innings to keep the Keys in the game.

With Wilmington's defeat in Potomac this evening, the Keys remain in a tie for first place in the division.

The series closes Sunday, May 15th at 1:30 p.m. with RHP Bobby Bundy on the hill in Kinston. Coverage begins at 1:10 p.m. with The UPS Store Pre-Game Show on 1450-AM The Source.

Frederick returns home with Orioles starter Brian Matusz on the mound on Monday night against the Potomac Nationals. The 7:00 p.m. start will also be Bark in the Park Night presented by Crossroads Animal Referral and Emergency.
