YOUNG SPURS PELICANS TO 12-INNING WIN

Jared Young registered three hits, including a walk-off single in the 12th inning on Saturday, to propel the Myrtle Beach Pelicans to a 1-0 victory over the Lynchburg Hillcats. In the 12th inning, Aramis Ademan started the frame on second before moving to third on a wild pitch. After a lineout, Young cashed in Ademan with his game-winning single to left-center. Bryan Hudson started for Myrtle Beach and pitched 6.2 shutout frames, yielding just two hits and one walk. Erick Leal went 3.1 scoreless before giving way to Ryan Kellogg, who pitched the final two frames to earn the win. Lynchburg left eight men on base, going 0-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

MAN OF STEELE

On August 1, 2017, Myrtle Beach starter Justin Steele left his outing in Frederick due to injury after just 2.1 innings. A mere three weeks later, the Lucedale, Miss., native underwent Tommy John Surgery, knocking him out for the rest of the 2017 campaign and the beginning portion of the 2018 campaign. However, just 341 days after his surgery, Steele is set to return to the mound for the Pelicans. The southpaw will start Sunday's series finale against Lynchburg after making five rehab starts with Rookie-level Mesa, where he struck out 27 against four walks in 18.1 innings and pitching to a 1.47 ERA.

ZERO DARK (ALMOST) THIRTY

Myrtle Beach blanked the Lynchburg Hillcats 1-0 over 12 innings on Saturday, sealing the Pelicans' 13th shutout of the season. That figure trails only Buies Creek's 17 zeroes in the Carolina League. When combined with the 16 instances the Birds have been broomed - one away from a club record set in 2003 - the Pelicans have been involved in 29 shutouts this season, the most in the Carolina League since Wilmington participated in 29 blankings in 2015.

EVERY STORM RUNS OUT OF RAIN

Though the Pelicans beat Lynchburg on Saturday, Myrtle Beach has still lost nine of their last 11 games. During this stretch, the Birds have been outscored 46-22. The Birds have scored more than four runs in just one of their last 11 games after doing so four times in the previous eight contests.

YOUNG FOREVER

In the first four games following his July 7 promotion from Low-A South Bend to Myrtle Beach, Jared Young went just 2-for-15 (.133) with an RBI and three walks. However, the Prince George, British Columbia native seems to be starting to figure out the High-A level. Over the last 15 games, he is batting 21-for-57 with two doubles, two home runs, 10 RBIs and four walks to slash .368/.410/.509. Young has reached base in all 19 games with Myrtle Beach, and dating back to his time with Low-A South Bend, is currently on a 28-game on-base streak.

MACY'S THANKSGIVING PEREDA

Jhonny Pereda went 1-for-5 on Saturday, pushing his on-base streak to 19 games. Over these last 19 contests, Pereda is 24-for-76 (.316/.388/.434) with a double, triple, two home runs, nine RBIs and nine walks. On the season, Pereda's opposite field rate of 36.6 percent ranks ninth in the Carolina League. He has also posted the 10th-highest line drive rate (23.2 percent), with a swinging-strike rate of 8.4 percent that places as the 10th-lowest in the circuit. In his five minor league seasons prior to this one, Pereda played in an average of just 53.2 games per campaign, slashing .238/.323/.302. This year, he is at .282/.358/.387 in 91 games.

ONE WAY OR ANOTHER

Myrtle Beach's 1-0 victory on Saturday over Lynchburg was the fourth consecutive one-run affair for the Birds, and their fifth out of the last six contests. On June 10, the Pelicans beat Salem 4-3 to push their record to 10-3 in one-run games, the best such mark in the Carolina League at the time. Since that point, though, Myrtle Beach has played 13 games decided by one run and lost 10 of them, dropping their record to 13-13 in one-run engagements.

PELICAN POINTS

Andruw Monasterio has reached base in 10 consecutive games, going 13-for-33 (.394/.487/.455) with two doubles, five walks and a hit by pitch during that stretch. Both Jared Young and Jhonny Pereda are one game away from tying Monasterio's 20-game on-base streak from June 6-28, the best for a Pelican this year... After an off day Monday, Myrtle Beach hosts Down East Tuesday to start a three-game set.
