Down East Wood Ducks News Release

KINSTON, NC - Myrtle Beach (25-37, 59-73) had a strong afternoon on the mound to halt Down East's (23-39, 58-74) winning streak at five games in a 4-1 final on Sunday. The Woodies could only manage three hits and one unearned run in the loss.

Tyler Thomas made his first start at home with the Wood Ducks but was saddled with the loss. He struck out five batters in four innings of work in his second start with the team. A two-run double by Christian Donahue opened the scoring in the fourth inning and those two runs would carry the Pelicans for the majority of the game.

The tandem work by Erich Uelmen and Bailey Clark kept the Wood Ducks mostly off the bases for the first five innings. They only left one runner on base during that stretch as Clark earned the win.

Christian Torres was the first man out of the bullpen for the DEWDs and he turned in his longest outing as a reliever in 2018. He struck out four (also a new season-high) over his three innings of scoreless work.

The Woodies got on the board in the eighth thanks to a Brendon Davis sacrifice fly to score Ricky Valencia. It would be all they could muster on the afternoon.

Down East heads on the road for the last time in 2018 by opening a four-game series in Zebulon with the Carolina Mudcats. First pitch for all four contests starting on Monday is 7:00 p.m.
