BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Despite a career-high four RBIs from Gavin Sheets, Buies Creek edged Winston-Salem 8-4 on Sunday at Jim Perry Stadium. With the two teams set to square off in the Southern Division Championship Series, the Dash (38-22, 79-51) and the Astros (37-23, 74-55) have split their season series with 10 wins apiece.

With the two on and two out in the first inning against Astros first-rounder J.B. Bukauskas (3-0), Sheets stepped to the plate. On a 2-0 pitch, the former Wake Forest star drilled a three-run shot to right-center to make it a 3-0 contest. Prior to Sunday, Sheets last went yard on June 28 at Frederick, when he registered the first multi-homer game of his professional career with two home runs.

However, Winston-Salem's lead was short-lived. Corey Julks immediately responded in the bottom of the first with a solo blast to left-center against Kyle Kubat (6-3). Later in the inning, with the bases loaded and nobody out, Colton Shaver ended an 11-pitch at-bat with a two-run single through the left side to knot the game at three.

Bryan De La Cruz followed with a two-run triple down the right-field line, and Jacob Meyers then hit a run-scoring, ground-rule double to give Buies Creek a 6-3 lead. Carlos Canelon capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to center. Kubat ultimately allowed seven runs and seven hits in 0.1 innings pitched, marking the shortest outing of his career.

Blake Hickman relieved Kubat in the first and proceeded to toss 3.2 scoreless innings of relief. Meanwhile, Connor Walsh struck out four in three shutout frames.

Sheets capped off his day with a sacrifice fly to left-center in the top of the eighth inning to cut the deficit to three. The 22-year-old finished the three-day trip to Buies Creek by going 5-for-11 with a homer, three runs scored and four RBIs.

The Dash now return home to BB&T Ballpark on Monday for their final regular-season homestand of the season, a four-game set against the Salem Red Sox. Right-hander Lincoln Henzman (0-1, 3.25 ERA) takes the hill for Winston-Salem against Red Sox right-hander Daniel Gonzalez (8-7, 4.18 ERA). First pitch is at 7 p.m., and pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. Fans can catch all of the action on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App.

Promotions for the homestand include a Football Night on Tuesday, a Pups in the Park Wednesday (presented by North Davidson Animal Hospital and Camel City Goods) and a Lowes Foods Thirsty Thursday. For tickets and more information, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
