Mississippi RiverKings News Release

Southaven, MS --- This Saturday, November 3, fans at the DeSoto Civic Center will get to see two exciting hockey games. The RiverKings game will start at 7:05pm against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, and during first intermission of the RiverKings game area youth in the Memphis Youth Hockey League will face off.

The Memphis Youth Hockey League (MYHL) whose mission is to open the sport of hockey to children of all ages, is a non-profit USA Hockey organization dedicated to the development and promotion of youth hockey in the Greater Memphis area. The Memphis Youth Hockey League consists of recreation, travel (competitive) and high school teams, with a total of 250 participating boys and girls.

"There are a total of ten teams in the recreation league, with approximately 108 youth participants," said Jack Rogers, MYHL Recreation Director. "The recreation league consists of different levels based on age groups mite, squirt, peewee, bantam teams."

"Mites is for children eight years old or younger," explained Rogers. "We have some four and five year olds who play, but at that age we team them up with others their age at a similar skill level. It isn't until they reach eight years old that they play on teams."

The RiverKings have paired with MYHL for a number of other events, including hockey clinics and last years' skating party.

"It is great for us to work with the RiverKings," said Rogers. "We have been partnering with the RiverKings to be a featured nonprofit since I began working with the recreation leagues, two seasons ago. During intermission at the RiverKings game Saturday our three Squirt teams will be combined to form two competing teams, who will face off in front of the RiverKings fans."

Saturday, is one of four nights this season when Memphis Youth Hockey League teams will be featured during intermission of the RiverKings game.

"All of our recreation teams will get to play this year during a RiverKings intermission," Rogers explained. "Our kids are always really excited to play in front of a RiverKings crowd."

Later this season the RiverKings will host a Youth Hockey Night. Memphis Youth Hockey League will be attending this event as well and plans to host a raffle raising funds for the league.

Memphis Youth Hockey League is still signing youth up to play on recreation teams. For more information please contact Jack Rogers at jcjrogers@bellsouth.net or visit www.memphisyouthhockey.com.
