Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs are still winless after losing 3-0 to the Mississippi RiverKings on Friday night at CenturyTel Center . Two power play goals did the trick for the 'Kings, while the Mudbugs couldn't convert any of their nine chances on the night.
In the first period the Mudbugs came out strong as they have all season long, outshooting the RiverKings 13-2. The teams traded power play opportunities, but no goals were scored in the first 20 minutes.
More penalties and power plays themed the second period and Mississippi took advantage. The RiverKings got an early power play chance and converted only 1:10 into the second. Aaron Davis finished off a nice centering pass from Chad Woollard to give Mississippi the 1-0 lead. Then Karlis Zirnis and Jason Basile took consecutive penalties only 27 seconds apart to give the RiverKings a 5-on-3 power play advantage. Chad Woollard scored the goal on the two-man advantage to put the Mudbugs down two goals for the first time this season. The second frame ended with Bossier-Shreveport trailing 2-0.
Despite three third period power plays, the Mudbugs couldn't get the offense going in the final period to try and mount a comeback. Late in the final period, the 'Bugs pulled Ken Carroll from the net for the extra attacker, but never could get a puck past Larry Sterling . Aaron Davis' empty net goal finished off the 3-0 Mississippi victory.
The Mudbugs out shot the RiverKings 29-19 for the contest, but special teams were the real difference. Bossier-Shreveport was 0-for-9 against league's best penalty killing unit, while the 'Kings finished 2-of-7 with the man advantage. Larry Sterling's shutout was the first against Bossier-Shreveport since Jeremy Symington accomplished the feat for Rio Grande Valley in November of 2006.
The two teams will hit the road and get right back on the ice together tomorrow night at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, Mississippi in the second game of this home-and-home series. Saturday night will mark the fourth meeting this season between the teams. You can catch all the action tomorrow night on AM 710 KEEL with pregame starting at 6:45 for the 7:05 faceoff. And don't forget you can also watch the game online for free on the CHL Network at www.nifty-tv.com/chl/.
