Evansville, Ind. - Noah Myers notched three hits, scored twice and drove in two runs as the Evansville Otters defeated the Joliet Slammers 7-4 on Wednesday night at Bosse Field.

Evansville lowers their magic number to five to make the 2023 Frontier League playoffs with 11 games left in the regular season.

Myers, the reigning Frontier League player of the week, sparked the Otters to an early lead. He led off the first inning with a double and scored on a Jeffrey Baez RBI double.

The Slammers tied the game with a run in the top of the second. Myers led the Otters' response in the bottom half of the frame. A walk and an Austin Bost double started the inning. Myers then doubled to left, scoring both runs for an Evansville lead they would never relinquish.

Myers extended the lead with a leadoff single in the fourth and came around to score on a wild pitch.

The Otters added insurance with three more runs in the fifth inning benefiting from two walks, two hit by pitches and a single.

Joliet scored two runs in the ninth inning on a two-out home run and brought the tying run to the plate. The Otters' closer Jake Polancic entered and induced a game-ending groundout on one pitch to earn his 16th save of the season.

Evansville pitching held Joliet to just five hits. Johan Castillo made his first start with Evansville and pitched 4.1 innings allowing just one earned run with five strikeouts.

Jon Beymer earned his second win of the season from the bullpen with 2.2 innings of work without allowing a hit.

Kevin Davis entered in the eighth inning with the bases loaded and no outs and struck out the side. The 6'9" reliever has not allowed a run in 12.1 innings pitched in August.

Ethan Skender added a two-hit day for the Otters. Myers moved his hit streak to seven games.

Evansville and Joliet play for the series on Thursday with a 6:35 PM CT first pitch. Bosse Field will enjoy College Night on a Budweiser Thirsty Thursday with discounted drafts and domestic cans.
