
'Cats Shutout for the Second Time this Season

TROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats (52-34) were defeated 10-0 by the Québec Capitales (54-32) on Wednesday at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. It was the first time since June 13 against the Lake Erie Crushers that the ValleyCats did not score a run in a game this season.
Tri-City put pressure on the Capitales in the first. Cito Culver singled off Abdiel Saldana, and Juan Kelly walked. Saldana then retired the next three hitters in order.
Québec got on the board in the third. Jonathan Lacroix singled off Dan Beebe. Lacroix stole second, and Emile Boies laced a single. Lacroix bolted for home, but was cut down at the plate on a bullet from Aaron Altherr in right field. Ruben Castro doubled, and Boies went to third. David Glaude drove in a pair with a base hit, and the Capitales took a 2-0 lead.
Boies picked up his second single of the day in the fifth. Afterward, Castro reached on an infield single, and Glaude drove in another run with a single to put Québec on top, 3-0.
The ValleyCats had a chance to strike in the bottom of the fifth. Pavin Parks opened the frame with a double, and Connor Bagnieski hit a one-out infield single. With the runners on first and second and one out, the next two 'Cats were set down by Saldana.
The Capitales tacked on a run in the seventh. Tanner Propst hit Tommy Seidl with a pitch. Boies had his third single of the evening. Tyler Jeans entered, and Castro reached on a fielder's choice as Seidl advanced to third. Glaude collected his fourth RBI of the night with a single to pull Québec ahead, 4-0.
Jeans issued a leadoff double to Juremi Profar in the eighth. Greg Bird singled, and Profar moved to third. Seidl had an RBI single, and Boies put the game out of reach with a three-run homer to make it an 8-0 contest.
The Capitales added two more runs in the ninth. T.J. White greeted Parks with a single. Justin Gideon drilled a two-run homer to provide Québec with a 10-0 advantage.
Saldana (6-2) earned the win. He threw six shutout frames, allowing five hits, walking one, and striking out four.
Beebe (5-5) received the loss. He pitched six innings, yielding three runs, two earned on eight hits, walking none, and striking out seven.
Tri-City plays the rubber game against Québec at "The Joe" tomorrow, Thursday, August 23. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
