Fresno Falcons News Release

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno Falcons defenseman Cory Murphy has been named Second Team All-WCHL and fellow defenseman Alex Todd made the league's All-Rookie Team.

Murphy is currently tied for the league lead in scoring among defensemen with 52 points (10g-42a). The total matches his career high that he set last season with the Falcons, as he is the first defenseman to eclipse the 50-point barrier more than once in franchise history. Last year Murphy also tied the team's all-time mark for most goals in a season by a blue-liner with 16.

Todd is a versatile player that has spent time at both forward and defense for Head Coach Blaine Moore. He has been honored for his play on defense in a rookie campaign that has seen him register seven points (2g-5a) and rack up 120 minutes in penalties.

Last season two Falcons players won honors from the league at year's end. Defenseman and current player/assistant coach Mike McCourt was named First Team All-WCHL while goaltender David Mitchell took home Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-WCHL accolades.

Fresno begins its final home stand of the regular season tonight against the Long Beach Ice Dogs at 7 p.m. at Selland Arena. They wrap-up the home campaign on Friday and Saturday against the Idaho Steelheads and San Diego Gulls, respectively. Tickets are available for all three games at the Selland Arena Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, and online at www.ticketmaster.com.
